On August 22, 2002, the
Department of State (DOS) published a notice in the Federal Register announcing
that entries for the 2004 Diversity Visa (i.e., "lottery") system must be
received between noon on Monday, October 7, 2002 through noon on Wednesday,
November 6, 2002. Each year, the lottery makes available permanent
residence visas to 50,000 randomly selected persons. Entries received before or
after these dates will be rejected regardless of the postmark date. There is no
special entry form provided but certain specific information must be included
and the entry must be mailed to the correct address at the Kentucky Consular
Center according to the region of the world from which the applicant is a
native. Failure to follow any of these very precise instructions will result in
the entry being disqualified. For detailed DOS
instructions click on the following link: http://travel.state.gov/DV2004.html.
The application process is very
simple and therefore Jackson & Hertogs does not offer the service of preparing
and filing lottery entry forms. If you are selected for a lottery number,
however, we will be happy to assist you with completing the legal steps
necessary to obtain the immigrant visa ("green card"). We encourage all
qualifying foreign nationals to apply for the lottery. In the event that you
are a successful applicant, please contact our office and ask to speak with your
attorney if you are an existing client, or if not, to the "attorney of the
week". |
