Effective January 24, 2003,
the INS has reduced its filing fees for all petitions and applications. The
rule lowering the fees came about as a result of recent Congressional action
inadvertently eliminating the surcharge used for asylum and refugee services
mandated by other laws. In the very near future, Congress is expected to pass
an omnibus budget bill reinstating this fee surcharge and returning filing fees
to the prior amounts. In the interim, INS Headquarters has announced that it
will accept filing fees in the new or old amount at its Service
Centers and most District Offices around the country.
Effective immediately, and until further
notice that the old fees have been re-instated, Jackson & Hertogs will be filing
cases based on the new fee structure. Watch our website for further news
announcements as they become available.
