Senate votes to suspend funding for NSEERS
published 31 January 2003

The U.S. Senate has passed an omnibus FY 2003 budget bill suspending the funding for NSEERS (National Security Entry-Exit Registration System) and restoring $165 million for border security.  NSEERS is the system mandated by the Illegal Immigration and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA) of 1996 under which Attorney General Ashcroft has ordered the controversial "call-in" special registration program for males of certain countries. Click on Special Registration (SR) in the Quick Access menu on our website for up-to-the-minute details regarding SR.   The Senate bill is certain to face stiff opposition in the House of Representatives.  Whether the bill actually becomes law is completely uncertain at this time.

Note that if you are subject to special registration, nothing has changed and you are still required to report for special registration.  Watch our website for further information as it becomes available.
