worldwide are announcing closures and reductions in
services. According to a Department of State briefing
and CNN reports on March 20, 2003, the following posts
are closed or have reduced services available to the
public (note that emergency services to U.S. citizens
may be available):

Surabaya
Jordan: Amman
Kenya: Nairobi
Kazakhstan: Astana
Lebanon: Beirut
Macedonia: Skopje
Nigeria: Lagos
Norway: Oslo
Oman: Muscat
Pakistan: all posts
Qatar: Doha
Romania: Bucharest
Saudi Arabia: Dhahran,
Jeddah and Riyadh
South Africa: all posts
Turkey: Istanbul
United Arab Emirates: Abu Dhabi and Dubai

The State Department cautions that other embassies,
consulates or posts may temporarily close or suspend
public services at any time in the weeks ahead for
security reasons. In light of the fluid
situation, we strongly recommend that those requiring
services at any U.S. post abroad contact the post
directly for the latest information on closings and
limitations on services.
