We have recently
learned that the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration
Services (USCIS) will soon announce that photograph
specifications for most applications will be changed
from the current three-quarter profile, ADIT-style
photographs to a full-face, "passport style"
photograph. While there has been no official
announcement from USCIS as of this date, both the
California Service Center and the Nebraska Service
Center of USCIS have begun advising applicants to submit
passport style photos instead of ADIT-style
photographs. Photographs are submitted with several
kinds of immigration applications, including Forms
I-485, I-765, I-131 and I-130. Specifications and
representative samples for passport style photographs
can be found at
http://travel.state.gov/passport/pptphotos/composition_checklist.html.
The USCIS has indicated that they will continue to
accept ADIT-style photographs for all cases filed prior
to September 1, 2004; however, it is recommended that
passport-style photographs be submitted. After
September 1, 2004, USCIS will only accept passport style
photographs. USCIS has indicated that for most
cases currently pending with ADIT-style photographs,
they will process the applications using the photographs
in the file, but may issue a request for passport style
photographs. We will provide more information when
an official announcement is made by USCIS on this issue.
