On May 25, 2005, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) announced that effective May 31, 2005, all applications to renew or replace Permanent Resident Cards, more commonly known as Green Cards, must be filed with a central USCIS "lockbox" in Los Angeles, California.  All applications shall be filed with the lockbox, regardless of where the applicant resides.
