USCIS recently announced a new version of Form I-693, Report of
Medical Examination of Aliens Seeking Adjustment of Status,
which will go into effect on May 01, 2008, in conjunction with
the U.S. Centers for Disease Control's (CDC's) exam changes.
USCIS will still accept previous editions of Form I-693 if
submitted after May 01, 2008, but only if the civil
surgeon/health department's signature on the Form is dated
before May 01, 2008.
In a meeting with the American
Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), USCIS has indicated that
a strategy for informing the 5,000+ civil surgeons of the change
in Form is being discussed. USCIS advised AILA that
approximately 50% of the civil surgeons have supplied email
addresses to USCIS. USCIS will likely send an email notification
to those individuals and letters to the other civil surgeons for
whom an email address is not available. USCIS has informed AILA
that an additional grace period of 30 days is currently under
review, which would expand the date the old form would be
accepted until June 01, 2008; however, nothing has been
confirmed as of today, April 22, 2008. Once the deadline to
receive the old Form I-693 is established, any old editions of
the Form I-693 that are submitted to USCIS after that date will
result in USCIS issuing a request for evidence (RFE) to the
applicant for the correct version of the Form I-693.
Jackson & Hertogs will provide updates as additional
information of the Form I-693 becomes available.
