On September 22, 2008 the U.S. signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Korea creating exchange
opportunities. WEST (Work, English Study, Travel) Program will
allow up to 5,000 qualifying university students and recent
university graduates from the Republic of Korea to enter the
United States for a period of 18 months on J-1 exchange visitor
visas that will allow them to study English, participate in
internships, and travel independently. For more information on

On September 24, 2008 and MOU was signed
with Ireland to create an Intern Work and Travel Pilot Program.
The twelve-month Intern Work and Travel Pilot Program is for
post-secondary students or young people within twelve months of
graduation.The new program is an innovative exchange program
that will allow thousands of young people from Ireland to enter
the United States for a period of twelve months on a J-1
exchange visitor visa. There also will be reciprocal
opportunities for young people from the United States to travel
