Canada wants H-1B workers to move to Alberta
published 11 February 2009

The province of Alberta, Canada, will be in San Francisco on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, to promote the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) pilot project for U.S. H-1B, H-1B1, H-1C, E-3 visa holders. The presentation will be held at the Westin St. Francis, 335 Powell Street, San Francisco, CA from 5:30 pm to 8:30pm.

The AINP H-1B program allows U.S. H-1B, H-1B1, H-1C, E-3 visa holders in qualifying occupations who have at least one year of U.S. work experience in the qualifying U.S. visa status to apply for Canadian permanent residence. Applying for the AINP H-1B Program is a two-step process, described at Alberta's official immigration website.

First, a qualifying H-1B applicant must apply by mail to the AINP. AINP processing may take three to four months from the date of submission. Assuming that the AINP application is approved, the applicant must then submit an application to the Canadian Regional Processing Center in Buffalo, New York. During this second part of the process, the applicant undergoes security, criminal and medical checks. This process generally takes anywhere from six months to one year.

You can register for the February 18, 2009, informational program put on by the AINP at their website. If you have a Canadian immigration matter, Jackson & Hertogs works with Canadian co-counsel to help you.
