Police Certificates and Military Records

Police Certificates are required from every visa applicant aged 16 years or over for each locality of the country of the applicant’s nationality or current resident where the applicant has resided for at lease six months since attaining the age of sixteen. Police certificates are also required from all other countries where theapplicant has resided for at lease one year. Generally, application for such certificates should be made directly to police authorities in the district in which you resided. If you have any questions about where or how to apply for police certificates in other countries, you may communicate directly with the U.S. consular office processing your visa applications.For police certificates in Canada: Royal Canadian Mounted Police website, click on “Criminal Records Section”.Do not attempt to obtain police certificates covering resident in any of the following countries, as they are not available:

Police Certificates from the following countries are available only through the United States Embassy or Consulate. Contact the American consular office if you currently are, or have been a resident of one of these countries:

  • Bermuda
  • Brunei
  • Korea
  • The Netherlands
