USCIS has expanded premium processing for certain F-1 OPT and F-1 STEM OPT extensions for those applicants that have a pending Form I-765 and wish to request a premium processing upgrade. Beginning 4/3/2023, USCIS will accept premium processing requests for new F-1 OPT and F-1 STEM OPT extensions when the premium processing request is filed together with Form I-765.
Note that if an applicant files their STEM OPT extension application on time and their OPT period expires while their extension application is pending, USCIS will automatically extend an applicant’s employment authorization for up to 180 days and until adjudication, such that premium processing may not be needed for many STEM OPT extensions.
